How to Play Death Note Killer Within?

Death Note: Killer Within is a social deduction game inspired by the anime Death Note, available for PlayStation and PC on November 5.

Bandai Namco describes it as a suspenseful “game of life and death,” where up to 10 players split into two teams to identify who among them is Kira, who is L, and who holds the Death Note.

Available at no extra cost for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, players take on unique roles, each with strategic elements and a variety of gameplay options.

Players gather clues and complete tasks during the Action Phase, then deliberate to reveal Kira in the Meeting Phase.

Victory depends on eliminating the right target—either Team L wins by identifying Kira, or Team Kira prevails by removing L.

Those playing as Kira wield the Death Note to eliminate NPCs and players alike but need an ID with their target’s real name to do so.

Staying close to other players helps collect this information, though suspicious behavior can lead to questioning in the Meeting Phase.

Bandai Namco added that the game visuals are based on Near’s toys from the anime and manga, where each player represents one of these figures in a “cat-and-mouse” hunt to gain control.

Phases in Death Note Killer Within

During the Action Phase, players gather clues, interact with NPCs, and perform hidden tasks, all while concealing their true motives.

In the Meeting Phase, players come together to discuss suspicions, attempting to uncover Kira’s identity and adding layers of tension and strategy.

Kira wields the powerful Death Note, able to eliminate NPCs or players but must do so cautiously to avoid drawing attention.

L, on the other hand, uses specialized tools to analyze behavior and gather essential insights. Kira’s allies, the Kira Followers, can steal Investigator IDs and even pass the Death Note among themselves to mislead Team L.

Investigators are essential to capturing Kira but must keep their distance from suspicious players who could steal their identities.
